AURORA LIGHTS! (LAPLAND DAY 2)


Now, that was our second night in Lapland and me and my friends were just getting cosy in the cottage that was extremely traditional and cool. We were just eating,chatting and having fun but I had just one thing on my mind : Northern Lights. I had to see them so I had installed this app that would notify us but it was getting very late and it showed around %10 chance. I was frustrated but had my camera out waiting for the lights. As we were chatting, I got a notification saying %40 and I must tell you, I don’t even know how I got on my coat and just ran out with my camera as my friends followed. I looked up at the sky and there was this grey thing but it looked like a cloud or was this the ‘’magic’’? I was dissapointed and was thinking ‘’If this is the lights like…people are photoshopping them?’’ but all of a sudden it just turned so green I screamed. We were screaming so everyone got out of their cottages and we were all going like ‘’wowwwww’’ and just watching these amazing ligthts dancing around in the sky as they changed colors. We ended up near the lake and actually started to take photos and watch the lights in awe for around an hour. We were all just freezing so badly when we came back because it was -14 but we had to watch the lights, nobody minded the cold. When we went back inside and ranted about the lights and how amazing they were, we actually decided that only the sauna would warm us up so we decided to go there and try sauna. I think that was a crazy idea and I had no idea what would happen to me in a couple of minutes. So everyone was pretty excited and we got our swimsuits on, we were ready for the sauna trip but as we got down the lake, we noticed that the lake was frozen but there was some water and some other friends were dipping in and running back to the sauna. Now that was something we had to try. So I  just dipped into the lake at -10 cold water, ran screaming back to the sauna and tried to get warm. We were talking and having fun until a friend suggested that we should jump in the snow so we did that too and we were once again freezing. So our time was over, we headed home and took a shower and I wake up the next day…with a high temperature J And so our day continues of me having breakfast and setting off to Yllas but I felt very tired and cold so I didn’t enjoy the day that much…

Salmiakki Ice Cream

Let’s talk about something I really love in general: Ice Cream. Now, I must say that summer has officially come (not to Finland in this case since it was basically raining and snowing a couple of days ago) but, summer is out there. And here we are still wearing coats. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t have ice cream! Ice cream is life. One of the best things about summer is, you can have ice cream for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can even make your own ice cream or popsicles. I remember making these lovely strawberry popsicles last summer, they were healthy too! Overall, everyone loves a bit of ice cream. Finnish Is Hard!

Today, I wanted to write about something I have not written in a long time but wanted to write about. Let’s talk about the Finnish language! The first thing I would like to state out is, as knowing English for many years myself, it is very easy for me to be able to predict what other languages mean and to figure out their sentences or words to their meanings. As you understand a language more, you realize that you start to understand other languages too…well that changed now but still.This year, like every other year, my goal was to learn something new which can be information wise or starting something new but this year, I learnt one very major thing : Finnish cannot be predicted.
